Why university?

I had a good job earning enough money that my wife didn’t need to work and we could still have a good lifestyle for our kids and ourselves.

Most people thought I was crazy giving up my career to go back into education. The number one question I got was why?

It took me a long time to come up with an answer that people seemed to accept “Life is to short”. Having had a carcinoid tumour removed in 2010 I decided that it was time to do what I wanted to do, even if it meant living on student finance!

My wife has been very supportive of my decision to go back into education. So much so that she has a place to start university in September 2016.

This blog will be a good way for me to track the changes in me going from someone who only has GCSE’s to becoming a chartered accountant.

As well as blogging about my time as a mature student I will discuss my previous brushes with carcinoid cancer and the follow up treatment I am now receiving at Christie’s Hospital, Manchester.
